A young 31 year old social worker at SFGH was stabbed to death by a patient. Taken off life support yesterday. Should we welcome this?

Judy, my heart breaks reading this. The only response I have is grief and pain, and more commitment to practice and service.

Hi Judy, this is a heart wrenching tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with you, the victim's family, friends, and colleagues. By "welcome" I do not mean that we "like" or "love" or "feel good" about what's happening or has happened. "Welcome" in the sense of "acknowledging" or "recognizing" the reality of the situation to stay as fully present to our internal emotional landscape while tending to the external circumstances as well. And, I know that nothing I can write can possibly touch the grief, anger, shock, and pain of such a horrific death. If you need someone to listen to what you're going through, please email me and we can arrange a time. Try to take good care of yourself.
