There are no typical Buddhists. This statement by this person is such a huge generalization that it's impossible to disprove. That's why as a practicing Zen Buddhist priest I refrain from making generalizations. Your welcome to your opinion, even though it's not yours but this doctor, who from what I can gather, has not met any of my Zen friends who are the diametric opposite to what he describes here.
