Heather, I was very touched to read your words to your mom. Many of us long for the kind of warmth and support you've received, though we often look for and find deep nurturance from the women in our practice and among our friends--our Other Mothers. You are so fortunate to have this love with your mom...and to be able to write about it so beautifully.

Thank you, Laura! I'm at my sister's house right now where my mother lives. She's still a force of nature, and for that, I am very grateful. I hope it presages what my golden years. Happy Mother's Day!!!

Thank you Shōren Heather for this essay. My parents were older - born in the 20s - but very supportive of this daughter (and her sister) to find my/our way. Both mothers are gone now (birth mother and stepmother). I still remember Mother's Day anyway.

Hi Choro, thank you for your comment. That's wonderful that you and your sister felt supported by your parents. It's so important for children to have parents who encourage them to be who they want to be. It's was good seeing you at ZMC last week! Take good care.
